Discussion:
Can you buy ladders 'by the yard' (or metre)?

I want some short lengths of ladder (or maybe 'steps' as in having
wider rungs) with probably only three rungs/steps or so. It might
also be handy to have slightly non-standard gaps between rungs to fit
the fairly short vertical distances involved.

Can one get 'ladder bits' anywhere, or sets of bits to build short,
custom lengths of ladder?

Wooden or aluminium?

I think you might be able to get parts for loft ladders, where the space is
often limited and you need a bespoke solution. 'Made to measure' loft
ladders seem to be a thing, and perhaps you can buy parts eg treads
separately.

A loft ladder 'extension kit' might be suitable?

Their Normandie loft stairs can be split into several flights. The
instructions are for a quarter turn, but the principle would work if you
just want several straight sections. Tread width would be easy to reduce.

Yes, that's the sort of thing I need, thank you.

I have lots of spare agricultural aluminium ladders and plenty of
hacksaws. You will have to fetch:-)

It's not difficult to make short wooden ladders yourself, and then they
can have the pitch, angle, and tread size that you want. Rout some slots
in the stringers to take the ends of the treads and either use barrel
nuts in the treads or put a studding tie-bar underneath the tread.

True enough, this may be the way to go, thanks.

Would electricians fibreglass steps be suitable ?.
